Who needs to be certified?
How often does an individual need to be certified?
Who certifies that an instructor is qualified to train, test, and certify in accordance with § 172.704?

If an outside source trains but does not test the employee, must the employee be tested and certified based on this training?

How is hands-on training provided for the user?
The practical hands-on training portion shall be provided by the licensee holder’s Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or designated individual. The hands-on training will need to be completed prior to the user operating a nuclear gauge.
Per the U.S. NRC, NUREG-1566, Volume 1, Rev. 2, Appendix C:
“Any online training should be supplemented by the practical hands-on training also described under Course Content. The applicant/licensee should demonstrate how it will meet the training described under Course Content and may consider providing a copy of the curricula covered in the course.”
